Haas ES-5 Horizontal Machining Centre
The Haas ES-5 Series HMCs are compact and affordable horizontal machining centres with generous 1,016 x 457 x 559 mm (xyz) travels, and a VMC-style enclosure that provides good visibility and access. Each machine features a 24+1 tool side-mount tool changer, and is equipped with an 8,000-rpm, 40-taper spindle that uses a unique inline, direct-drive system that couples the motor directly to the spindle to provide fine surface finishes, extreme thermal stability and quiet operation. A 20-hp vector dual-drive system with on-the-fly wye-delta switching yields plenty of low-end torque and a wide constant-power band.
High-lead ballscrews and high-torque servomotors on all axes of each ES-5 provide rapids to 1,000 ipm to reduce cycle times, and the 24+1 tool side-mount tool changer swaps tools quickly to keep non-machining time to a minimum.
For added performance, an optional 12,000-rpm spindle powered by a 30-hp vector dual-drive system is available. This spindle provides more power than the standard spindle, as well as additional speed for high-speed machining operations. For increased tool capacity, a 40-pocket side-mount tool changer is also available.
The following configurations of the ES-5 platform are available: The ES-5-T is a 3-axis HMC with a standard T-slot table; the ES-5-4AX features a 1,320 x 508 mm T-slot table with an integrated 4th-axis platter; the ES-5-4T has a rotating 4th-axis T-slot table that's easily adapted for cylinder head porting; and the ES-5-TR has an integrated Haas TR-210 dual-axis trunnion table in place of the standard T-slot table.
